A Brief Breakdown of Our Days in Belize
- June 20th
- Today was our travel day to Belize. We arrived and were greeted by David, our host. We ate at Cheers Restaurant and made our way to Hopkins. There we ate curry fish for dinner.
- June 21st
- Our first day at Holy Family R.C. School. Here we led sessions with students about motivation and vision boards. The school has about 416 students and 18 teachers. We also participated in cooking a traditional Garifuna meal called Hudut.
- June 22nd
- We visited with women from the Mayan community and also helped prepare a traditional meal that included a dish comprised of chicken called Lancha. We also participated in a Garifuna dancing demonstration with some children from the Holy Family R.C. School.
- June 23rd
- This was our free day where we visited the Mayan King Waterfalls. The scenery was beautiful and we had such a great time!
- June 24th
- We began our journey from Hopkins to Belize City with a stop in Belmopan at The Phillip S.W. Goldson House. We also participated in drumming lessons and had our first Belizean meal at Celebrity Restaurant.
- June 25th
- We gave a presentation to Belizean counselors and social workers on effective communication between parents and children. We learned so much from everyone who came. We also visited the University of Belize and spoke with one of their social workers, Ms. Pennill.
- June 26th
- We visited the Inspiration Center and spoke with parents about communicating with their children. Like yesterday, we learned so much and I’m glad that this opportunity was presented to us. We also found that there were some similarities like specific days for SOAP Notes.
- June 27th
- We traveled back home and with the time change it felt as though we were traveling for such a long time. After I got back in the US the first difference that I noticed was the freshness in our food – it is drastically different in Belize.
We were surrounded by the Caribbean Sea during our entire trip in Belize. Click the link and look through the slideshow below to see some of the beautiful shots that I captured!
