My experience in Belize was nothing short of adventurous. Taking this journey and exploring new ideas/methods to keep children/adolescents motivated was a memorable moment. Being in Belize allowed me to come out of my comfort zone and adapt to another culture, explore new ways of living, but most importantly it made me realize the importance of not taking things for granted. This experience really gave me insight on the importance of being culturally competent.

The Garifuna Cultural and Culinary Adventure was my favorite part of the Study Abroad experience. Garifuna was well known for the injustice they faced, yet still arrived to Belize with the ambition to serve their new homeland. I enjoyed the history of Garifuna, the drumming, how their food came about, as well as helping to prepare some of their famous dishes. Something that resonated with me was how they raised their children with information on where they come from which motivates me to encourage the population I serve to learn and understand their history. This has been an experience of a lifetime and if you ever get the chance to travel and study another country, GO BELIZE!
