Wow! Belize was absolutely incredible. Every aspect of this country had me out of my comfort zone, and yet I never felt so welcomed. There were so many highlights, like the school we visited in Hopkins, the children that danced for us at our hotel, or the unity and kinship of the Garifuna and Mayan cultures that completely consumed me, but the one thing that should out most of all was their gratefulness.
Throughout this entire trip every place that we went there was extreme gratefulness. They felt blessed to be alive, happy to wake up everyday and go to school, and were grateful to have the opportunity to grow and learn with each day. That was something I was not used to seeing in the States. That overwhelming feeling we have everyday to be perfect, to be in a rush, or to only think of ourselves was quietly zapped away for the duration of those 8 days.
Even thought that was a shorter trip abroad, I still feel I gained so much insight into what I want to change in my life, in the world, and who I want to become in the future.
Thank you Belize, for everything.
